Kayjay grew up in a small cothold near Southern Hold, raised by her two parents, (all relatives so far NPC), Myan and Lyrias. She is the youngest sibling and only daughter in the family, and has four older brothers, all handfasted, who have settled with their mates at their parents cothold. She grew up in a happy, loving home, full of laughter, happiness and people! She has many nephews and nieces, many of which are older than herself, and never lacked for playmates, advisors, comforters and childhood rivals.
Kayjay found it impossible to sit still for very long as a child, always climbing, playing, wrestling with the children at her cothold. She loved to follow her father and brothers around on their daily chores and spent as little time as possible indoors, and as a result, had very few domestic skills, much to her chagrin.
Her parents discovered that the infrequent visits of the traveling harper were not going to be enough to keep a sharp mind challenged, and they wrestled with the difficult decision to foster their only daughter to a place where she would have more opportunities to grow. When Kayjay's aunt Naggen asked that Kayjay visit her at Southern Weyr, her parents sent her off, sensing that their daughter's destiny was to be fulfilled elsewhere. Kayjay's sense of adventure tempered her extreme homesickness and soon she found herself a resident at the weyr, working in the gardens, happy, content and trying to drink in all that life had to offer her. She has three children with C'ley, Karel 7 turns old, and twin girls, Kewel and Lacey, 5 turns of age, who all spend their time between C'ley's cothold and their mother.
