Even though hailing from Paradise River Sea Hold, being relished by it's serene, tropical beauty, Jolis' family life proved to be ironic to his surroundings...
Being the only child of a Hold fisherman, named Marcus and an Assistant Headwoman, named Mabelle, he was never treated as the only one, in the family, because he wasn't. The fact is, that his mother's sister, Auntie, Clarrie, had passed away and her husband, Uncle Eugie, decided he was too old to handle them, passed their 3 children to Jolis' parents, when Jolis was 5 Turns of age. Oh, how Jolis grew jealous having to be 'pushed' out from his /own/ parents' circle so that they can shower compliments and receive 'stolen' love, from them. Jolis mostly rolled his eyes at all /5/ of them. How he was ignored, being the youngest and most quiet. Delmar, the eldest at 17 Turns got whisked away to Stand on Manaco Weyr's Sands and Impressed a brown. The other two, Aldie and Aldia, who were twins and both 7 Turns, took center stage when their older brother left. The boy's parents, when he reached 12 Turns, suggested that the boy go see what he can do in the stables, where he can become of more use to the Sea Hold. So, Jolis became one, of the many, Hold's Stablehand. Still remaining jealous of his 'cousins' and angry how his parents treated him, he decided it's time for a 'change'. Was it something he did? Did he let them down? The poor boy became confused...
The way he viewed life took a drastic leap and the boy became more self-centered, seeming he enjoyed having the attention he had not received earlier in his life. Jolis began to 'speak up' and tell everyone what was on his mind, being blunt, or not. Altogether, a rather large ego was forming in the mind of this young boy. He started to dress well, actually caring about his looks, so he could get the attention he had been craving all his life, which he /did/ get, though, not from his parents...
Once he hit 15 Turns, his total personality turned around. He realized he was not the same person, as before, yet, felt there was nothing wrong with the 'new' him. Even still, anytime he faced his parents, he could tell they were still 'involved' with his cousins' lives, instead of his and he still doesn't know why they chose to let him become an 'outcast' in the family. The boy decided that he just /had/ to go. Leave for anywhere...
